Barbecue is both a noun and a verb. It means either a serving of food cooked outdoors over an open fire or grill (eating barbecue), or to cook food on a barbecue (barbecuing tri tip). Both terms encompass more than just a simple definition, and whichever region you are in determines what kind of barbecue it is.
